Information collected depends on the services you choose to use, including website forms, interactive tools, subscriptions, inquiries and other features that may become available.
Depending on how you interact with GardHack, information may include your email address, information you enter in forms or calculators, preferences you choose, and technical information needed to operate and protect the website.
Depending on the technologies enabled, technical information may include device, browser, diagnostic and usage information. Relevant tracking and preference choices are described in the sections below.
Interactive Tools & Calculators
GardHack provides and may develop interactive gardening, sustainability and planning tools. The Rainwater Calculator uses information such as the selected U.S. state, roof area, roof material, garden size, storage capacity, estimated system cost and water-rate assumptions to produce an illustrative estimate.
When the relevant data-processing features are enabled, calculator submissions may be linked to a contact record so that one email address can be associated with multiple estimates for different locations or scenarios.
Requesting an email report is separate from subscribing to marketing communications. Knowing an email address alone does not authorize access to historical estimates.
Estimates are illustrative and are not guaranteed water savings, financial savings or engineering recommendations.
How We Use Information
GardHack operates a website with educational gardening content, interactive tools, product information and recommendations, and links to third-party services.
Information may be used to provide requested functions, respond to inquiries, maintain preferences, improve website reliability and protect against misuse.
Information provided through GardHack tools is used to perform the requested calculation, manage associated requests and, where enabled, maintain relevant records and send requested reports.
Technical information may also be processed to maintain service reliability, prevent abuse, investigate errors and protect the website.
Email Communications
Requested reports
If you request a Rainwater Calculator report, the service is designed to send the report to the email address you provide. This request does not automatically enroll you in marketing messages.
Optional updates
Gardening tips, sustainability updates and product recommendations are separate marketing communications. Where offered, subscription preferences are selected independently and marketing emails provide an opt-out method.
Data Retention
Personal information should be retained only for defined purposes and periods. The Rainwater implementation includes fields supporting expiration of saved estimates, with retention depending on the purpose, operational requirements and applicable legal obligations.
Marketing subscription and suppression records may require different retention treatment from calculator estimates.
